Rheinmetall has obtained a contract for its Skynex air defence systems from an unnamed international customer.
The company will supply four complete Skynex systems under a contract that marks its first agreement with this international customer.
While specific financial terms were not disclosed, a 2 July release indicates the contract is valued in the range of several hundred million euros.
The order was booked in the second quarter of 2026 and is scheduled to be completed over a 39-month period.
The first Skynex battery is scheduled to reach the customer 21 months after contract signing, with the following batteries to be delivered sequentially at six-month intervals.
The contract package includes not only the Skynex systems themselves but also encompasses trucks, ammunition, and a comprehensive Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) package.
The ILS element, which forms a core part of the contract value, is designed to maintain operational readiness by providing specialist training, spare parts, designated tools, and other consumables.
Work on this project will be led by Rheinmetall Italia, acting as the prime contractor. Additional participation comes from other divisions of the Rheinmetall Group, including Rheinmetall Air Defence, Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles, and Rheinmetall Weapon and Munitions, which is based in Switzerland.
The Skynex Air Defence System provides very short-range protection using a gun-based solution. Its capabilities include engaging hard-case targets up to 6km away and soft-case targets at distances as far as 10km.
The system is designed for missions such as Counter-Uncrewed Aerial Systems (C-UAS) and Counter-Rocket, Artillery, and Mortar (C-RAM) operations.
Last year, Rheinmetall Italia secured a contract from the Italian Army to supply the first of four Skynex systems, with an initial contract worth €73m ($75m) and an option for three additional systems valued at €204m.
