A new independent study

has concluded that India requires between 67 and 79 fighter squadrons to
secure a high probability of air superiority in a simultaneous two‑front
conflict against near‑peer adversaries.
This figure is far higher than the Indian Air Force’s sanctioned strength of
42 squadrons and its current operational count of roughly 29
