Rheinmetall has introduced a new combat helmet and body armour system during the Enforce Tac 2026 trade fair in Nuremberg, Germany, focusing on military and police security equipment.

The new helmet model is “significantly lighter” than previous versions, while maintaining existing ballistic protection standards, the company said in a statement on 23 February 2026.

Rheinmetall’s new combat helmet uses High Performance Polyethylene composite material, which the company claims “significantly exceeds today’s requirements concerning ballistic efficiency.”

The helmet is available in high cut and full cut shapes. It features a redesigned strap system and pads intended to improve comfort, as well as the removal of the internal hairnet to increase adaptability when used with other equipment.

Furthermore, the helmet has flexible straps and new mounting rail attachment options to enhance compatibility with night vision systems and additional accessories.

Rheinmetall Soldier Electronics supplies the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) and the Bundeswehr’s personal clothing management.

According to the company, it delivered approximately 310,000 combat helmets to German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) as part of an advance procurement programme, positioning Rheinmetall as one of NATO’s largest helmet suppliers.

In 2024, Rheinmetall secured a framework contract from the Bundeswehr to supply intercom systems with hearing protection to support tactical communications.

Alongside the helmet, Rheinmetall presented a modular body armour system designed for military operations.

“The new system shields against attacks with firearms, stabbing weapons and explosives,” Rheinmetall said.

Its modular design allows users to configure protection levels based on mission requirements. Ballistic protection includes soft panels for the front, back, and abdomen that meet VPAM BSW Level 3 standards, while hard inserts can be enhanced to Levels 6 or 9.

The system can also incorporate stab protection rated to VPAM KDIW Level K1 and provides shrapnel protection for the upper arms, thighs, neck, and shoulders.

Additional features include a chest rig, pouches for ammunition and equipment, and transport bags for moving the entire system.

Rheinmetall is also presenting its next-generation Fuchs JAGM armoured missile destroyer at stand 310 in Hall 11 within the Armed Forces Area of the trade fair.
