The Danish procurement authority has finalised a contract with Rheinmetall Mobile Systeme, a subsidiary of Rheinmetall, for the delivery of five Role 2 field hospitals.

The agreement, valued in the mid double-digit million-euro range, was signed at the end of 2025 and recorded in the fourth quarter of that year.

The order consists of three Role 2B (Basic) and two Role 2E (Enhanced) field hospitals.

Delivery of all systems will occur over the following two years.

The Role 2B model is fully containerised and mounted on trucks to facilitate mobility and quick setup.

Each Role 2B is accompanied by a tent-based Forward Module, which can supplement the core system or function independently.

These systems provide full diagnostic and surgical capability, allowing patient stabilisation near operational areas before transfer to facilities located further from the front.

The Role 2E variant offers twice the capacity for operating rooms and intensive care compared to the Basic model, along with additional features such as a computed tomography (CT) scanner, laboratory and pharmacy containers, and a dental treatment unit.

Containers have been designed to endure military environmental conditions and frequent transport. Medical equipment was chosen in collaboration with Danish authorities to ensure compatibility with devices already used by the Danish Medical Service.

Both hospital types are designed for self-sufficiency within a specified timeframe, featuring independent power, water, and oxygen supplies as well as military sanitary facilities.

Rheinmetall Mobile Systeme managing director Armin Krenn said: “We are delighted to have been awarded this contract by a major NATO partner. The collaboration with the Danish procurement agency and the end-users has been extremely professional, cooperative, and goal-oriented from the outset. Together, we have been able to develop high-performance, mission-oriented solutions for the Danish Medical Service.”

In late 2025, the Danish Ministry of Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation (DALO) signed a framework agreement with Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles (RMMV) for up to 1,000 HX and TG trucks.
