Breaking Defense is proud to announce an important and pivotal development in its ongoing global growth, with Breaking Defense Europe, a distinct edition of our outstanding news coverage focused on the interests of European readers that will launch May 4.

Breaking Defense Europe is a direct response to the unprecedented emphasis on defense across Europe. New technologies, new defense enterprises and new strategic scenarios are reshaping the landscape. Those increased requirements, investments and opportunity inspired Breaking Defense to invest in a distinctly European edition, to provide the focused news journalism the defense community of Europe needs.

Edited, curated and produced in Europe, for Europeans, Breaking Defense Europe will feature its own home page and site features, designed to focus on key topics for member states of the European Union, regional allies and NATO. It will leverage the global coverage and resources of Breaking Defense, but with a distinct focus on European interests in defense and global security.

As part of this significant investment, Breaking Defense is proud to announce the promotion of Tim Martin and the appointment of Elisabeth Gosselin-Malo as co-Editors of Breaking Defense Europe.

Tim has been Breaking Defense’s European Bureau Chief for three-and-a-half years, leading our coverage of the NATO nations and European industry. He joined Breaking Defense in 2022 after a five-year stint at Shephard Media, where he reported on air warfare and rotary wing aircraft. Based in Belfast, Tim graduated from Queens University Belfast and received his master’s degree from Swansea University in Wales.

Elisabeth joins after serving three years as a Europe correspondent for Defense News. Based in Milan, Italy, she has published work in French, Italian and English, and has a passionate interest in drone warfare, unmanned technologies, EU and NATO affairs. Elisabeth graduated from Queens University in Canada and received her master’s degree from the University of St. Andrews in Scotland.

Tim and Elisabeth’s work will be supplemented by an expansion of our correspondent network, which already features local reporters covering Poland, Ukraine, France, the Nordic and Baltic nations and the United Kingdom.

“Watching the changes in European defense over the last three years has been astounding, and as military budgets rise and local industrial players experience growth, it’s only fair that our coverage of the region expands to meet those needs,” Aaron Mehta, Editor-in-Chief of Breaking Defense, said. “I’m thrilled to welcome Elisabeth to the team, and can’t wait to see the kind of excellent work she and Tim will do together.”

“I am proud and honored to be able to launch our distinct European edition, Breaking Defense Europe,” said David Smith, Publisher and Managing Director. “With the renaissance of defense interest and the unified drive for more defense capability in Europe, this focus and increased coverage was needed.

“We will double down on our European coverage, including with multimedia, and have a commitment to provide Tim and Elisabeth the resources they need to serve this dynamic market,” Smith continued. “I’m excited to add Elisabeth to our staff for this development. I’m respectful of our opportunity to serve our European readers with top-notch news coverage tailored for their interests, and look forward to great things to come.”
