Breaking Defense is pleased to announce the hiring of Benjamin Watson in the role of production editor, an addition that will help support and advance the capacity of the world’s largest newsroom dedicated to defense.
As production editor, Ben will lead our growing fleet of newsletters, curating and editing them for enhanced reader value and engagement. In addition, he will work with our multimedia department to help facilitate productions and expand editorial offerings, manage Breaking Defense social media operations, and provide management support for our editorial operations.
Ben joins Breaking Defense after over a decade at Defense One, where he wrote and produced both the daily D-Brief newsletter and a biweekly podcast, in addition to reporting. His work has appeared elsewhere in The Atlantic and on NPR. Ben is an Army veteran, a Bronze Star recipient, and served alongside special operations forces during the war in Afghanistan.
“Ben has shown his multifaceted talents over the years, so I’m very excited to have him join our team,” Aaron Mehta, editor-in-chief of Breaking Defense, said. “He brings a wealth of experience on defense topics and a keen sense for connecting with the audience that is going to benefit us going forward.”
“Anytime an opportunity aligns to add a professional as talented and experienced as Ben is in defense media, it’s a real win,” said David Smith, publisher and managing director of Breaking Defense. “I’m delighted to welcome Ben to our exceptional team at Breaking Defense and expect readers will see great developments with our newsletters and special editorial projects moving forward.”
Watson begins April 13 and can be reached at [email protected]
