The Danish Army has selected BAE Systems OneArc (OneArc) to provide the foundation for its new enterprise virtual training environment under a seven-year agreement.

The contract will introduce a modernised simulation platform including VBS4, VBS Builder Edition, Blue IG, TerraTools Platinum, as well as software maintenance and on-site training services.

The transitioning from VBS3 to VBS4 is in line with the Danish Army effort to advance its virtual training capabilities in course-of-action development, mission rehearsal, and force design.

The new suite of simulation tools is currently in use by over 60 Nato and allied nations. With this upgrade, Denmark aims to support both current and emerging military training objectives.

OneArc president Rahul C. Thakkar said: “Denmark’s selection of OneArc’s suite of products represents a major investment in future-ready synthetic training. Upgrading to VBS4 delivers the realism, flexibility, and multi-domain integration required for modern readiness, while maintaining full backward compatibility with years of Danish Army simulation development.”

The agreement aligns with the Nordic Defence Cooperation (NORDEFCO) 2030 Vision and enables Denmark to increase interoperability with regional partners such as Sweden, Finland and Norway.

These countries already use OneArc technologies for virtual collaboration and exercises.

Access to OneArc’s ecosystem will allow Denmark to take part in multinational exercises and large-scale collective operations alongside other Nato and NORDEFCO members.

Danish Ministry of Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation, land division head colonel Thomas Øgendahl Knudsen said: “The system can contribute to a significant uplift in the Army’s level of training. Soldiers can train both basic skills and complex operations in a safe, virtual environment, and that makes us more combat-ready.”

Recently, BAE Systems OneArc also secured an agreement with the Italian Ministry of Defence to upgrade Italy’s virtual training environment with VBS4 and Mantle platforms.
