US-based drone manufacturer Neros Technologies has set up a UK subsidiary and plans to invest up to £10m ($13m) over five years in a new headquarters in the Swindon area.

The move follows the company’s recent involvement in supplying drones to the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) through the International Drone Capability Coalition and carrying out first person view (FPV) trials in the country.

Neros says the UK operation will support sovereign capability, workforce development and national security objectives.

Founded in 2023, Neros manufactures autonomous FPV unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) using components sourced from allied countries.

The company has already delivered thousands of systems to Ukraine and to the US Department of Defense.

Besides the UK, Neros has also established Neros UA in Ukraine to expand onshore support for Western militaries.

The new Swindon hub is intended to increase UK supply chain resilience for FPV platforms and related equipment.

The firm’s main product, the Archer FPV system, is in service across Nato forces and is claimed by the company to be the Nato standard for strike UAVs in its category, using a supply chain that excludes Chinese critical components.

Archer was the first strike FPV platform to appear on the US DoD’s Blue UAS List, a programme that examines hardware and software for security issues and foreign-sourced risks, and the system completed that process successfully.

Neros Europe growth lead Hugo Crawford said: “As a leading manufacturer driving the shift to sovereign drone capability for allied forces, the UK has always been a critical hub for Neros.

“The establishment of Neros UK and opening our headquarters in a key drone manufacturing hub is a milestone as we look to bring our world-leading intellectual property and operational infrastructure to UK and allied forces around the world.”

In November last year, Neros was selected as one of three main manufacturers to provide FPV drones for the US Army’s Purpose-Built Attritable Systems (PBAS) programme Tranche 1.
