ST Engineering has obtained a €315m ($372m) contract from Barzan Maintenance Shield to deliver maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services for the Qatar Emiri Land Forces (QELF).

The five-year agreement will cover military land platforms, workshop equipment and technical specialists, as well as the introduction of digitalised MRO processes and inventory management systems.

Work under the contract is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2026 in Qatar.

The scope of work includes comprehensive upkeep of QELF’s vehicle fleets and to improve MRO operations by digitising maintenance workflows, enabling anomaly detection, and supporting fleet analytics.

ST Engineering will also focus on refining inventory management, optimising planning, and implementing data-driven spares provisioning.

ST Engineering land systems president Lim Kok Ann said: “This contract win marks ST Engineering’s breakthrough into the Qatar defence market. We are encouraged by the trust and confidence placed in us by Barzan and the Qatar Emiri Land Forces to maintain its land platforms to ensure operational readiness at all times.”

ST Engineering indicated that this development highlights its focus on the Middle East, including Qatar, where it continues to pursue programmes that expand its core services and reinforce partnerships with regional defence customers.

“We are committed to working closely with Barzan Maintenance Shield and the Qatar Emiri Land Forces to deliver dependable, long-term MRO support. We are combining our engineering expertise, digital processes and on-the-ground execution to enhance the lifecycle management of the Qatar Emiri Land Forces’ operational platforms,” Lim Kok Ann added.

Qatar is projected to increase annual spending on infantry fighting vehicles (IFV) and main battle tanks (MBT) through 2034 due to ongoing upgrades across land, sea, and air forces.

Data from GlobalData’s Qatar Defense Market Data 2024-2034 report notes that Qatar possesses the world’s third largest known reserves of natural gas and shares a land border with Saudi Arabia.
