The US Department of State has approved a potential Foreign Military Sale (FMS) to Jordan involving Ku band multi-function radio frequency system (KuMRFS) radars, along with related equipment and services, at an estimated value of $280m.

Jordan seeks to procure KuMRFS radars and a command-and-control system, as well as generators, GPS receivers, spare and repair parts, special tools and test equipment, technical manuals and publications, training devices, and new equipment training.

The package also covers US Government and contractor technical, engineering, and logistics personnel services, concurrent spare parts, systems integration and checkout support, field service representative support, contractor logistics support, programme management reviews, and other logistics and programme support elements.

The State Department provided the mandatory certification about the possible transaction to the Congress on 26 February 2026.

RTX Missile Defense Technologies has been identified as the principal contractor for this deal.

The FMS will strengthen Jordan’s ability to address current and emerging threats by maintaining a force capable of deterring adversaries and supporting US Central Command (CENTCOM) operations.

In a statement, the State Department said: “This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by helping to improve the security of a major non-Nato ally that is an important force for political stability and economic progress in the Middle East.”

The KuMRFS, also referred to as Ku-band Radio Frequency System (KuRFS), is a radar providing 360-degree coverage designed to detect drones, rockets, artillery, and mortar fire.

The unit can cue defensive weapons and can be deployed within 30 minutes either at a stationary site or mounted on a vehicle, according to Raytheon, a business of RTX.

Raytheon developed the KuRFS radar for the US Army’s use against rocket, artillery, and mortar attacks in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The system is currently employed as a counter-unmanned aerial system radar and integrates with a range of weapon systems such as the land-based Phalanx Weapon System, 50-calibre guns, 30mm cannons, the High Energy Laser, and the Coyote weapon system.
