Teledyne FLIR Defense, a Teledyne Technologies company, has secured a contract worth over $35m from WB Electronics to supply TacFLIR 280-HDEP medium range multi-spectral surveillance systems for reconnaissance vehicles.

The agreement marks Teledyne FLIR Defense’s third armoured vehicle programme announcement in Europe this year.

The TacFLIR 280-HDEP system, designed and built from Teledyne FLIR Defense’s facility in Billerica, Massachusetts, will be integrated into military reconnaissance vehicles.

The system supports a range of land-based missions through multi-spectral imaging capabilities, including both daylight and thermal imagery. It also features video processing and Aided Target Recognition (AiTR), alongside an expandable control electronics unit that can accommodate third-party algorithms.

Teledyne Defense and Aerospace president Dr JihFen Lei said: “The integration of TacFLIR 280-HDEP into the reconnaissance vehicles is a testament to our years-long collaboration with WB Electronics.

“By providing warfighters the clearest picture of the battlefield through superior EO/IR imagery and intelligent tracking, TacFLIR technology will enhance situational awareness for military forces while reducing operator risk.”

The TacFLIR 280-HDEP as suitable for use on both ground vehicles and stationary installations, with a stabilised payload assembly for durability, according to Teledyne FLIR Defense.

The system has been deployed and tested in Europe over the past decade.

In February 2026, Teledyne FLIR Defense announced the digital integration of Black Hornet 4 nano-drones onto Switzerland’s Piranha 8×8 vehicles to deliver live video and target information. In January, Teledyne FLIR Defense disclosed plans to supply long-range thermal imaging sights and radar for Bulgaria’s new Stryker vehicles.

The company reports the three contracts collectively hold a value exceeding $85m.
